Windsor Bucket Truck Training - The bucket truck training program is a program that is intended to efficiently train operators who are qualified so they can lessen the chance of incident and personal injury when working with or in close proximity to bucket trucks or also referred to as vehicle-mounted aerial work platform. An aerial lift device is whichever vehicle-mounted device, telescoping or articulating, or both, which is used to position personnel to reach places that will otherwise be unreachable. Aerial lift devices are used to be able to elevate personnel to above-ground work locations.

The program aims to provide operators with the skills, knowledge, training materials and abilities required to be able to safely and efficiently operate vehicle-mounted aerial work platforms.

The program has two parts: a hands-on session and a classroom training session. To become certified, participants must be successful in both components. A full-size certificate and a wallet-size certificate will be given upon completing the program.

Types of lifts comprise articulating boom platforms, extensible boom platforms, vertical towers, aerial ladders and aerial ladder trucks and any combination of these devices. Aerial lift devices are normally constructed with metal, wood, reinforced plastic, fiberglass or other materials.

Definitions
Articulating boom platform: multiple hinged boom sections.
Extensible boom platform: has either a telescopic boom or an extensible boom.
Platform: the component of an aerial device which is designed to carry workers.
Mobile unit: a combination of aerial devices, such as its vehicle and related machinery.

Employees who work with aerial devices have the responsibility of making certain that they are correctly trained and authorized. Employees must make certain that people who are not authorized and trained do not utilize lift devices. Employees should ensure that they have on the correct protective equipment when working from the platform.

Course content includes operation of the vehicle-mounted aerial work platform, pre-shift inspection, safe operating practices, use of emergency controls, lifting capacity, and administering theory and practical tests. Operators would learn legal requirements under the federal and local regulations.
